User Research & Usability Testing

Maytag Innovation Gallery

This project involved taking primary research conducted by both Maytag ethnography teams, as well as consultants and distilling distinct user profiles. Because Maytag did not have a clear idea of what their offering should be, I participated in strategy discussions to examine the opportunity space, and make recommendations for possible functionality.

My Information Architecture team designed an innovative and proprietary product search methodology that queries the user based on real life knowledge and consumer product interaction, not on specifications such as cubic feet, or watts.

Globus and Cosmos

This project allowed us to do usability testing and research into the online habits of older users as they browsed the web looking for travel information. We brought in 6 subjects that fit our target audience and watched them work through our prototype as well as watching their general interaction with the computer.

Once data was collected changes to the prototype were made to take advantage of the new insights into user behavior.

While this lab provided facilities to conduct stand-alone testing, it was actually more effective as a way to get clients and project teams excited about user-centered design as the standard and best approach to produce applications and products.
